MERCED
Just as the newest University of California campus is a catalyst in stimulating the educational growth of its surrounding communities, BPSHI at UC Merced strives to engage with the residents of Merced County and surrounding areas to create a culture of environmental consciousness, social justice, and health awareness.
With its beginning a few years ago, BPSHI at UC Merced has found an environmentally friendly approach to financial sustainability in its Recycling Project, has made stronger ties with local health professionals, and is working to implement social justice initiatives to effect change in the communities it serves in collaboration with fellow chapters at Stanislaus State and Fresno State Universities.
Current Projects
1
Clinics
UCM BPSHI is hosting more than 6 clinics this academic year, including locations such as Yuba City, Livingston Nagar Kirtan, and Stockton Nagar Kirtan. At these clinics, our volunteers provide free blood pressure and blood sugar screenings while also offering personalized health education. A unique feature of our clinics is that we ensure participants understand their results and connect them with resources for follow-up care, allowing us to support both immediate health needs and long-term wellness.

Mock Clinics
UCM BPSHI will also host 2 mock clinics this year — one each semester. These events give our members the opportunity to practice clinic procedures, patient interactions, and health screenings in a low-pressure environment. This hands-on training prepares members to serve more effectively at our community clinics and ensures consistency in the quality of care provided.

General Meetings
UCM BPSHI holds bi-weekly general meetings throughout the academic year. These meetings include health education presentations, physician panels, and interactive workshops that help members learn about healthcare from multiple perspectives. To build community, we also host fun socials such as game nights and movie nights, which give members a chance to bond and recharge while staying engaged with the chapter.
