SAN DIEGO

UCSD BPSHI Chapter was established in 2015. Since then, we have been striving to serve the greater San Diego area, specifically Poway and Escondido Gurudwaras. We strive to improve community health by hosting screening clinics for chronic conditions linked to culturally relevant social determinants of health, such as the South Asian diet. We love working with the San Diego sangat and building a sense of community through our health clinics!  Furthermore, we hope to start working with refugees and begin holding clinics in underprivileged neighborhoods, since San Diego has become a refugee hub.

In addition to hosting clinics, we have also started to incorporate service projects related to health. For example, this year, we celebrated International Women’s Week by giving a presentation on women’s health. We specifically focused on homeless women and made care packages with feminine hygiene products. UCSD BPSHI hopes to continue service projects such as this!

Clinics

CSD BPSHI plans to do 8 clinics between the Poway Gurdwara and Escondido Gurdwara. During UCSD BPSHI clinics, students make an effort to connect with our patients to make them feel more comfortable during the clinic.

2

Care Packages

UCSD BPSHI will also be doing our quarterly collaboration care package event, where we will work with other BPSHI chapters to make care packages that include hygiene kits, prepared food, and clothing for unhoused people. This event allows us to connect with other BPSHI members as well as give back to the community.

Fundraisers

UCSD BPSHI plans to host 5 fundraisers over the school year, which will include selling pastries from the popular SoCal bakery Porto’s, as well as working with restaurants on campus to promote our club for a portion of profits. We use funds throughout the year for machines used in clinics, as well as supplies for hygiene kits and care packages.
